Alex Edelman

Uri Kaufman
On June 21, Lawrence Village residents are urged to vote for a new mayor and two trustees. Martin Oliner, first elected in 2010, will not seek reelection as mayor due to term limits, and Alex Edelman, 67, a board member for four years, is running unopposed for the spot. Running on the Unity Party ticket, which summarizes its position as “Vote for Lawrence Experience,” Edelman’s main objectives are to polish the jewel of Lawrence. He wants to improve street lighting, fix curbs and sidewalks, improve water drainage, and remove old electric poles. He plans on devoting much time and attention to ensuring Lawrence is governed in the most effective manner.
Uri Kaufman, 52, is also running on the Unity Party ticket and his experience is also an asset to Lawrence government. As village trustee, he plans to keep taxes low, as he did in his nine years as a trustee of the Lawrence public-school district. He would use his more than 20 years of experience remediating environmentally contaminated sites to properly decommission the Lawrence sewer plant. He wants to redevelop the Lawrence sewer-plant site as home for a public center with an indoor pool. He also wants to find a home for an upgraded modern public library.
All would agree Lawrence is a beautiful place to live, with a thriving community. Passing the baton of leadership on to other experienced, passionate individuals like Edelman, Kaufman, and Danny Goldstein (the subject of this week’s cover feature) will lead to even brighter days to come. v
