Assemblywoman Melissa Miller is proud to announce the success of her first annual Disability Awareness Fair, held on October 15 in Cedarhurst at the Andrew J. Parise Park. The fair provided a variety of information on services, programs, and equipment available to individuals with disabilities and their families. In addition to over 35 vendors providing information, fun activities such as Pop Earth painting, hula-hooping, balloon animals, as well as refreshments were provided. Entertainment was provided by the singers of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.

“As a mother of two children with disabilities, I can relate to the struggles families go through trying to find care, equipment, and programs for their loved ones,” Miller said. “I, along with my wonderful staff, for whom I am so eternally grateful, planned this fair as a way to ease some of the stress and frustration that can stem from the difficult search families and individuals often go through. During the event I was approached by so many people, thanking me for putting together the fair because the information was truly valuable in making their or their loved ones’ lives easier, and being with others going through similar situations made them feel less isolated. Because the fair was such a success, I cannot wait until next year’s fair and to continue helping individuals with disabilities and their families with other similar events in the future.”
