Although about a year away, the midterm elections of 2018 are shaping up to be one of the most intense ever. Although the pundits are already predicting that the Senate will be handed over to the Democrats, that is mere speculation and fortune-telling.
The election for the Senate in the swing state of Ohio is one of the most closely watched, analyzed, and discussed races. Josh Mandel, who was born in 1977, went to Case Western Reserve University Law School, served two terms in the Marines in Iraq, and lost by only 6% to Senator Sherrod Brown in 2012, is up for a rematch. This time around, Josh Mandel will have more support from more corners than ever before.
The Democrats are hoping Senator Brown can run for the presidency in 2020 against President Trump. Senator Sherrod Brown is in his second term and is considered one of the more progressive liberal candidates around. He recently opposed anti-BDS legislation. He visited Hollywood in the middle of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Ohio seems to be moving in a more conservative direction. President Trump won Ohio by 9 percentage points. This was a greater margin of victory than any other swing state. The president will be paying very close attention to Ohio. The results of the 2018 Ohio senatorial race will be a litmus test for the 2020 presidential election.
Josh Mandel has served as the state treasurer since 2011. When Josh took over, Ohio’s finances were ranked 43rd in the nation, with an $8 billion deficit. Josh got them to seventh in the nation with a $1 billion surplus.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Josh Mandel recently. He is a proud observant Jew whose grandfather survived Auschwitz. He is a strong supporter of Israel and the American–Israel Alliance. He got married in Israel and had a contingent of his fellow U.S. Marines act as an honor guard and best men. He is an avid and strong supporter of United States veterans and their families. His other grandfather fought in the U.S. Army in World War II against the Nazis. Josh Mandel’s time has come to be elected to the Senate. Keep an eye on this rising star. He gives one hope for a bright future both here in America and around the globe.
